Kayode Alabi and Ifechukwude Ikpeoyi, the Nigerian couple, have picked tickets for the para-table event of the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.

The couple qualified for next year’s event after winning gold medals in their respective individual categories at the 2023 ITTF Para Championships in Egypt.

Alabi defeated compatriot Isa Olamilekan 3-1 in the final to win the men’s single class six category, while Ikpeoyi beat Obiora Chineye by the same scoreline to clinch the title in the women’s single class five category.

In the women’s singles class 10, Faith Obazuaye also qualified for the 2024 Paralympics after dominating the group with four straight wins to claim the title.

Bolawa Akingbemisilu also secured a Paralympic ticket after storming to a gold medal in the men’s single class five category. Farinloye Victor took the ticket for the men’s single class eight category.

Adesope Abiola defeated Chukwuemeka Francis for the ticket in the men’s single class nine category, while Isau Ogunkunle qualified for the men’s single class four category.

The Nigerian para-table tennis players had a more fruitful qualification tourney than their compatriots at the 2023 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) African championship.

The triumphs of Aruna Quadri in the men’s singles and the duo of Funke Oshonaika and Bello Fatimo in the women’s doubles were the only silver lining in a rather drab outing for Nigeria.
