Paris Olympics: Brume, Usoro, Ochonogor qualify for women’s long jump final

Team Nigeria’s Ese Brume, Ruth Usoro and Prestina Ochonohor have qualified for the women’s long jump final at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The trio booked a place in the final following impressive performances in the event’s qualification round at the Stade de France on Tuesday.

Brume secured her third consecutive Olympics final after leaping beyond the automatic qualification mark and hitting 6.76 meters.

The 28-year-old won a bronze medal in the event at the Tokyo Olympics. She was one of Team Nigeria’s two medallists from the COVID-19-ridden Games.

Ruth Usoro also confirmed her place in the final by leaping 6.68 meters to finish fifth on the qualification table.

Ochonogor followed in seventh with 6.65 meters to secure one of the non-automatic spots in the final.

The trio will compete for medals when the final commences on Thursday by 8 pm.

In women’s 400m, Ella Onojuvwevwo progressed into the semifinals.

She took first in the first heat of the repechage round with a finish in 50.59 seconds.

In the men’s 200m, Udodi Onwuzurike also progressed to the semi-finals.

He clocked 20.51 seconds in the first repechage round to book a place in the penultimate round.

Chinecherem Nnamdi finished 14th in the men’s javelin throw qualifiers and crashed out of the competition.
