Festus Keyamo, minister of aviation and aerospace development, has urged Qatar Airways to patronise local catering services on its return trips from Nigeria.

According to a statement on Tuesday by Tunde Moshood, spokesperson to the minister, Keyamo made the proposal at the Future Aviation Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The forum was themed ‘Elevating Global Connectivity’.

“A key proposal made by the Nigeria Aviation Minister involves encouraging Qatar Airways to patronize local catering services on its return trips to Doha from Nigeria,” Moshood said.

This initiative, he said, is consistent with the principles of reciprocity outlined in the bilateral air services agreement (BASA) and aims to boost Nigeria’s local economy.

He said the minister remains committed to forging strategic collaborations that will elevate Nigeria’s aviation industry on the global stage.

Keyamo, according to the ministry, appreciated Jassim Al-Sulaiti, Qatar minister of transport, for his keen interest in Nigeria, affirming the African country’s openness to investment in civil aviation and other sectors of the economy.

The minister emphasised the need to learn from Qatar’s success in airline operations — as exemplified by the global acclaim of Qatar Airways — seeking a partnership to strengthen Nigeria’s aviation sector.

Moshood said Keyamo is actively engaging with Middle East aviation leaders at the forum.
