PDP: Adeleke’s s’court victory has restored trust of Nigerians in judiciary

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has hailed the verdict by the supreme court affirming the election of Ademola Adeleke as Osun state governor.

Adegboyega Oyetola, former governor of Osun, had challenged Adeleke’s victory from the tribunal to the apex court.

While Oyetola won at the tribunal, the appeal and supreme courts affirmed Adeleke as the winner of the July 2022 governorship election.

In a statement on Tuesday by Debo Ologunagba, spokesperson of the PDP, the party said the supreme court’s verdict was the ultimate triumph of the will of the Osun people as expressed at the polling units.

“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
congratulates the Governor of Osun state, Senator Ademola Adeleke, over his victory at the supreme court which upheld his election as the duly elected governor of the state at the July 16, 2022 governorship poll,” the statement reads.

“The judgment of the supreme court has further restored the confidence Nigerians repose in the institution of the judiciary and the hope for the sustenance of democracy in our country.

“The PDP commends the supreme court for its courage in upholding justice and reaffirming the saying that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man.”

In a separate statement by his media office, Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the PDP in the February elections, congratulated the people of Osun for the court’s verdict.

He added that the case has shown that the bimodal voter accreditation system (BVAS), has come to stay as a legal instrument for the accreditation and transmission of election results in Nigeria.

“We are all witnesses to the copoius references to the BVAS technology in coming up with this judgement,” the statement reads.

“The law governing our elections has truly brought power to the people, and those power mongering politicians who believe that they can freely subvert the inherent power of democracy now have their hopes dashed.”
