Bode George, Maina to take over Lagos PDP secretariat — until crisis is resolved

The national caretaker committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked Aduke Maina and Bode George, both board of trustees (BoT) members, to take over the party secretariat in Lagos state.

The decision was taken following an alleged breach of peace by party members loyal to Moshood Salvador.

Ben Obi, national secretary of the party, issued the directive, which he says is in accordance with section 32 (5)(e) of the party’s constitution.

In a statement, Segun Adewale, chairman of the state chapter of the party, said he has already handed the secretariat to the BoT members pending when Ahmed Makarfi, national chairman, resolves the issues.

Adewale said his election as the party’s state chairman was duly conducted and supervised by the national headquarters in May 2016 under the watch of Maina and Ibrahim Shekarau, a former governor of Kano state.

According to him, there was no contention in Lagos PDP until George “imposed” Salvador on the party as his selected state chairman.

“We were presented with a letter from the National Secretary, senator Ben Obi asking the Police to hand over the state secretariat of our party to the two BOT members from Lagos pending when the issue will be resolved by the national chairman, senator Ahmed Makarfi,” he said.

“As a peace loving party faithful, I have handed over the secretariat to the police in the overall interest of our party.

“The state commissioner of police is presently in custody of the keys to the secretariat having being locked by my humble self and keys handed over as directed by the national secretary of our great party.”
