Imam Auwal, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has asked the federal high court in Zamfara to restrain party officials from postponing the national executive council (NEC) meeting.

The meeting is billed to take place on October 24.

In a suit filed on Tuesday, Auwal is seeking an order of interlocutory injunction to restrain the PDP (first defendant), its officers, agents, privies and/or any persons from postponing the NEC meeting pending the final hearing and determination of the substantive suit.

“An order of Interlocutory Injunction restraining the Defendants jointly and severally, their servants, agents, privies and/or any person or persons claiming through or under them from recognizing any other National Executive Committee Meeting held on any other dates except the one scheduled for Thursday 24 October, 2024 as the 99th NEC Meeting of the Defendant/Respondent pending the final hearing and determination of
the substantive suit,” the suit reads.

Auwal asked the court to stop the PDP national working committee (NWC) and all other organs of the party from recognising Ali Odefa, suspended national vice chair (south-east zone), as a member.

He also urged the court to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from receiving any correspondence or communication of whatever nature from the PDP unless a substantive national chairman is appointed.

The court is yet to rule on the suit.

The development comes amid the internal crisis in the PDP.

Some party members are calling on Umar Damagum, PDP’s acting national chair, to step down, while others are asking him to remain in his position.

The PDP NEC is expected to decide Damagum’s fate at the sit-down on Thursday.
