PDP crisis: Akinwonmi has handed over to Secondus after receiving court order, says aide

Ike Abonyi, media aide to Uche Secondus, suspended chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says Yemi Akinwonmi, acting chairman of the party, has handed over to Secondus.

On Monday, a high court in Rivers state granted an interim order restraining Secondus from parading himself as the national chairman of the PDP.

In compliance with the court order, the party’s national working committee (NWC), at its meeting on Thursday, named Akinwonmi, the PDP national deputy chairman (south), as the acting national chairman.

However, a few hours later, a Kebbi state high court suspended the order of the Rivers high court and ruled that Secondus retains his position as national chairman of the party.

In a statement issued on Friday, Abonyi said Secondus is back in charge of the party’s affairs.

“Prince Secondus, who was obeying the purported ex parte order of a Degema High Court in Rivers State, had stayed away but got reinstated after a Kebbi High Court presided over by Justice Nasirat I. Umar directed him to resume,” the statement reads.

“Sequel to that, Prince Secondus who had stayed away even though not served resumed and the Deputy National Chairman South, Elder Yemi Akinwomi, who held forth in his absence upon receipt of the new court order handed over to him.

“At the brief handover, Prince Secondus pledged to continue providing astute leadership to the party. Elder Akinwomi also announced his receipt of the court order which he presented to the caucus meeting.”

Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP spokesperson, has been contacted for comment but had not responded at the time of this report.
