Daniel Bwala, spokesperson for the Atiku/Okowa presidential campaign council, says the message Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, is preaching differs from what he practises.

Wike and four other governors — Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Samuel Ortom of Benue, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu — have been at the forefront of calls for Iyorchia Ayu to step down as national chairman of the PDP.

The governors had premised their stance on the fact that the party’s chairman and presidential candidate cannot be from the same region.

Known as the G5, the collective recently metamorphosed into the ‘Integrity Group’.

Speaking on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme, on Wednesday, Bwala said Wike is not fighting for equity, fairness and justice as he claimed.

He said the Rivers governor is also guilty of the complaints he has about the party.

“I think it is clear now that Wike is pursuing his ambition and not what he claims to be equity, fairness and justice,” he said.

“From every angle you look at it, his message is opposite of what he practises. He is an Ikwerre man, he took over from an Ikwerre man. His chief of staff is an Ikwerre man.

“The vice-chancellor and the rector [of the state’s tertiary institutions] are from Ikwerre. And the governor appoints them.

“The chief judge is an Ikwerre man. So, you come to the party — his complaint has been about the party — his governorship candidate is from the same senatorial district as that of the party chairman in the state.

“You can take that and apply it to every facet of what he is saying, whether within or outside.”

On Tuesday, TheCable reported that Wike insisted that Ayu must step down, adding that he has no problem with Abubakar as the presidential candidate.
