The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in EKiti state has accused the outgoing administration of Governor Kayode Fayemi of illegal recruitment into the civil service, threatening that the incoming workers would be laid off when Governor-Elect Ayodele Fayose assumes office on October 20, 2014.
Describing the action of the current government as irresponsible, PDP claimed to have the actual record of the genuine work force and criticised the Fayemi-led government of intending to create problems for his successor.
“We know what the staff strength in the core civil service, the teaching service, the local government, the house of assembly, the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State and others was before the June 21 governorship election in which our party thoroughly trounced Fayemi and his APC,” said Kola Oluwawole, PDP’s state publicity secretary.
“We also know how the Fayemi administration has illegally recruited over 3,000 into the civil service, 1,000 into Ekiti State University, over 100 into BSES, and over 1500 into the teaching service, among others, after they lost the election, and how they are clever by half by backdating the letters of appointment.

“The question the good people of Ekiti state should ask Fayemi and his party is why they are just waking up to engage in massive recruitment in the twilight of their tenure in office? Those given such letters of appointment should consider themselves to be on temporary appointment and as having a victory that is short-lived.”
Though Fayemi conceded defeat immediately after the results of the election was announced and both men had a meeting shortly after, they have since disagreed, particularly on the creation of 18 local council development areas by the incumbent governor.
