The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described outgoing governor of Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi as a “true democrat” for conceding defeat and congratulating Ayo Fayose, the winner of Saturday’s gubernatorial election.
In a statement signed by its spokesman, Olisa Metuh, PDP commended Governor Kayode Fayemi for his “rare show of patriotism and sportsmanship” in conceding defeat and congratulating the PDP candidate and Ekiti state governor-elect, Mr Ayodele Fayose, for his popular victory at the election.
“This exceptional show of statesmanship has indeed earned Governor Fayemi the respect and admiration of Nigerians as a man of honour, a true democrat and a patriot,” the party said.
While praising Fayemi for the “spirit of sportsmanship” he exhibited, PDP urged politicians in the country to “imbibe the same spirit and jettison all forms of bad-loser syndrome, especially ahead of the 2015 general election”.

It congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan for his insistence on free, fair and credible election at all levels, assuring that “the PDP, under the leadership of the national chairman, Ahmadu Adamu Muazu, is more than ever before committed to ensuring transparent and credible primaries that will guarantee the emergence of only popular candidates for elections”.
