PDP group: Zacch Adedeji preoccupied with Oyo guber bid – he should resign

A group known as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Youth Coalition for Good Governance says Zacch Adedeji, chair of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), is distracted by his Oyo governorship bid.

Adedeji has not declared a governorship bid yet, however, there are rumours that he is nursing one.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja, Ikemba Chidozie, convener of the group, said the FIRS is the cornerstone of Nigeria’s revenue system which must be taken seriously.

“His preoccupation with his 2027 gubernatorial ambitions in Oyo State has resulted in neglect of duty,” Chidozie said.

“He must decide whether he wants to serve as Executive Chairman of the FIRS or focus on his political ambitions in Oyo State. If he cannot commit to the responsibilities of his current office, he should resign immediately to save the FIRS from further degradation under his watch.

“The time for excuses and half-measures has long passed. Nigeria cannot afford a leader who treats public office as a stepping stone for personal ambitions.

“The Federal Inland Revenue Service deserves a Chairman who is fully dedicated to its mission, accountable to its staff, and responsible to the citizens it serves.

“In light of these troubling developments, the PDP Youth Coalition for Good Governance calls on His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, to take decisive action.”

Dare Adekanmbi, the Special Adviser on Media to Adedeji, was reached for comments but had not responded as of the time this report was filed.
