The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said Tuesday’s defection of Osun governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) would not affect outcome of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
The state chairman of the party, Alhaji Gani OlaOluwa, in a statement on Tuesday described the defection as “inglorious”, Olaoluwa said that there was the need to pray for Oyinlola as he “begins a political journey with professional liars”.
“We respect the decision of Oyinlola, but we are also expecting him to be man enough to send a congratulatory message to us after the August 9 election.
“For the PDP in Osun, we are resolute and stand as a family to rescue our people from political vultures and voodoo personalities,” he said.

Oyinlola had, at a rally of the APC held in Osogbo on Tuesday ahead of Saturday’s election, formally pitched tent with the party.
At the occasion, Oyinlola said, “I decided to take my destiny in my hands as I am no longer wanted in the PDP. I have discovered that all the former governors in Osun are now in the APC and I decided to move with the tide.”
He also said President Goodluck Jonathan was now friends with the “killers of Bola Ige” ─ understood to be a reference to the PDP candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore, and minster of police affairs, Alhaji Jelili Adesiyan, who were both arrested for the murder of the former minister of justice, although they were not convicted.

Oyinlola still has a case in court over his position as the national secretary of the PDP and recently held a meeting with Jonathan over the Osun election.
He is still on suspension from the party.
