The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its national executive council meeting (NEC).

The meeting was scheduled for Thursday at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.

In a communique issued on Tuesday night after a meeting in Abuja, the PDP Governors Forum said the postponement of the NEC meeting to November 28 will allow the party focus on the governorship election in Ondo.

“The postponement is to ensure that the party approaches the forthcoming Ondo gubernatorial elections on 16 November 2024 with the unity and strength required to unseat the struggling All Progressives Congress (APC) government in the state,” the communique reads.

“Reiterating the need for unity in the face of efforts by detractors to divide the party, the meeting called on all members to shun divisive utterances that could undermine ongoing efforts to strengthen the party and effectively position it as the country’s main opposition in preparation for the 2027 elections.”

The governors and other organs in the party, including members of the national working committee (NWC), the board of trustees (BoT), the national assembly caucus, and national caucus met on Tuesday.

The NEC was expected to make wide-ranging decisions on the protracted crisis in the party.

Imam Auwal, a chieftain of the PDP, had asked the federal high court in Zamfara to restrain the party from postponing the NEC meeting.
