Atiku Bagudu, the representative of Kebbi central senatorial district at the national assembly, has declared interest to contest for the state’s governorship position on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
APC is yet to conduct its primary election in Kebbi.
Speaking at the state secretariat of the party on Saturday, Bagudu, who was accompanied by his supporters, said his defection to the opposition party was based on advice from his associates and supporters.
“I am acting in tandem with advice from supporters, followers and political stakeholders in my constituency,” he said.

He defected alongside eight PDP members in the state house of assembly.
The senator expressed optimism that he would clinch the governorship ticket, appealing to members of the party to give him the opportunity to serve his people.
Attahiru Machido, the chairman of APC in Kebbi, urged all members of the party to remain loyal, promising them that APC would ensure equity and fairness in its primaries.

Reports had it that a planned reception for those who defected to the APC was shelved based on a directive from the party’s headquarters in Abuja.
The primaries for the state house of assembly, house of representatives and senate would be concluded on Sunday.
