The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus of the senate has asked for the “immediate release” of the results of the March 19 rerun legislative polls in Rivers state.
Of the 10 results announced so far, PDP won nine, but the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) halted further announcements until the “end of violence”.
At the PDP senate caucus meeting held on Thursday with the national chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff, in attendance, the senators asked INEC to release the outstanding results particularly results that were collated from polling units, wards, local government areas.
In a communiqué signed by the senate minority leader, Godswill Akpabio (pictured), the caucus agreed to send a delegation to visit Rivers to congratulate the governor, Nyesom Wike, on the “electoral victories” as well as commiserate with the families of those who lost their lives in the violence, including the youth corps member.

According to the communiqué, “the Caucus calls on INEC to as a matter of urgency re-schedule the Imo North re-run Senatorial election without further delay as since the 90 days ordered by the court had since lapsed.
“The Caucus also calls on INEC to re-schedule similar re-run elections in Anambra Central and Kogi East Senatorial Districts.”
