PDP urges Nigerians to emulate Scotland in unity

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Nigerians to emulate Scotland and reinforce their commitment to live in a united and peaceful nation.

According to the party’s national publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh, the decision of the Scots proved that citizens could push through their resolve to live together and peacefully as one people with a common destiny despite their differences, perceived or real.

“We might be different in our tongues, tribes and religious affiliations but, as one people, let us not dwell on these differences but rather magnify those things that bind us together so that we continue to live together in peace, love and unity,” he said.

“Nigerians yearn for a situation where they will no longer be defined by political, tribal, religious and sectional considerations but to see ourselves as a united people under one strong, virile and indivisible nation.”

Stating that the challenges facing the nation are transitory and incapable of defeating its collective spirit, Metuh urged Nigerians to ensure that their thoughts and actions are always guided by the national interest and values that unite and bind all citizens in love.

“It is incontrovertible that Nigeria remains stronger and more prosperous as one nation. In this regard, we call on all citizens to put the unity of the nation above every other personal and sectional interests in all their dealings and aspirations,” he said.

“The party therefore charges all its elected and appointed officials at all levels across the country to redouble their efforts in the prudent handling of resources as encapsulated in its manifesto so that the people will not only continue to enjoy the benefits of having it in power but vote en masse for it in the 2015 general election.”
