The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Ibrahim Kabiru, candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Birnin Kudu constituency, as winner in the house of assembly supplementary election in Jigawa.

Making the declaration on Saturday, Usman Haruna, the returning officer, said Kabiru polled 36,050 votes to beat his closest rival and the incumbent of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammad Surajo, who polled 34,545 votes.

Haruna said Muhammad Yakubu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) scored 283 votes, Halilu Aliyu of Action Democratic Party (ADP) scored 117 votes, and Ahmad Abdullahi of the Labour Party (LP) scored 17 votes.

INEC had earlier announced winners in the federal legislative, governorship, and state house of assembly elections held on February 25 and March 18.

However, the electoral umpire fixed supplementary polls for the governorship in Adamawa and Kebbi states after the elections were declared inconclusive.
