PDP’s Lawal Usman beats el-Rufai’s ex-chief of staff to get Kaduna central senatorial seat

Lawal Adamu Usman, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has won the Kaduna central senatorial seat.

Umar beat his closest rival, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi, better known as Dattijo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with 225,066 votes.

Dattijo was the former chief of staff to Nasir el-Rufai, governor of the state before he became the state commissioner for budget and planning.

He polled 182,035 votes while Mohammed Sani of the Labour Party (LP ) secured 86,510 votes, and Ahmad Tijjani of the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) had 24,395 votes.

Haruna Aminu, the returning officer for the district, announced the result at the Magajin Gari collation center in Kaduna, on Tuesday.

“Lawal Adamu Umar, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner and returned elected,’’ Aminu said.
