Brazil football legend Edson Arantes do Nascimento (better known as Pele) would be watching when the home-based Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Black Stars of Ghana play a friendly match on November 7 as part of the events to officially open the ultramodern Akwa Ibom stadium in Uyo.
President Goodluck Jonathan is also expected to grace the occasion.
Towards guaranteeing a hitch-free ceremony, the Akwa Ibom state government set up a central planning committee whose responsibilities cut across technical, logistics, media and publicity, sports content generation, venue and facilities, security, protocol and ceremonial, and medical.
The stadium will play host to Nigeria’s last group game against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on November 19, 2014.

The 30,000 seating capacity stadium bears similarities to Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena, the Bird Nest Stadium in Beijing China, and the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.
