The Nigerian Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) has appointed Peter Igho, former director general of the National Lottery Commission, as the national coordinator of goodwill ambassadors.
Emem Omokaro, director-general NSCC, announced Igho’s appointment at a ceremony on Thursday night in Abuja.
The committee of NSCC goodwill ambassadors consists of retired media veterans above the age of 60 years.
In a statement issued Sunday by Danladi Bako, a member of the NSCC goodwill ambassadors, Omokaro charged Igho to extend the frontiers of the senior citizens centre through advocacy, rights defence, social justice, and the promotion of a healthy, comfortable environment for elders and senior citizens as they age.
“Stressing that this is also a major plank of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda , Dr Omokaro charged the Goodwill Ambassadors to utilise a lot of their popularity and goodwill to create enhanced awareness and acceptance of the initiative by the entire populace of the country,” the statement said.
A subsequent inauguration of the coordinator and other goodwill ambassadors followed the announcement, Bako added.
Attendees included Chika Okpala, actor; Idi Farouk, former DG of the National Orientation Agency (NOA); Joke Silva, veteran actress; and Salma Anas, special adviser to the president on health.
Other ambassadors are Cyril Stober, retired journalist; Bello Abubakar, producer; Austin Eruka, director; and some actors and broadcasters.
