PHOTOS: 15th batch of Nigerians arrives from Sudan — 2,371 evacuated so far

The federal government says 2,371 Nigerians stranded in war-torn Sudan have been evacuated.

Onimode Bandele, director of special duties, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), spoke on Saturday when 125 Nigerians from Sudan arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The Nigerians, who were the 15th batch to be evacuated to the country, were airlifted from Port Sudan.

Bandele welcomed the returnees on behalf of the federal government. He said there were no more stranded Nigerian women and children in Sudan.

He said arrangements have been made to airlift the remaining Nigerian males in Sudan.

He added that another batch of Nigerians would arrive later on Saturday.

Representatives of the ministries of humanitarian affairs, foreign affairs, national commission for refugees, migrants and internally displaced persons, among others, were on the ground to receive the returnees.
