Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano, has flagged off the distribution of learning materials to public schools in the state.

In a statement on Monday, Yusuf said the exercise was in line with his administration’s commitment to strengthen the education system in the state.

He directed the immediate screening of the Better Education Services Delivery for All (BESDA) teachers for employment within two weeks.

BESDA is a World Bank supported programme focused on taking out-of-school children back into classrooms.

He commended the BESDA teachers for their work in strengthening the education system, adding that they have contributed immensely to the improvement of public schools in Kano.

“We believe that education is the only priceless wealth that any society will enrich its population with, and it makes members of the community to be more patriotic, productive and even more useful to themselves and to the entire nation,” the statement reads.

“Kano state government accords utmost priority to the education sector and it will not relent in implementing its educational rejuvenation masterplan that focuses on; expanding access to education, ensuring provision of quality education and eliminating illiteracy through life long learning.
