Dapo Abiodun, the governor of Ogun, has approved the recruitment of 1,000 additional personnel for the Ogun state Security Network Agency, also known as the Amotekun corps.
The governor announced the approval on Saturday in Sagamu during the passing-out parade of 690 newly recruited Amotekun officers.
Abiodun emphasized that the initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to enhancing security and public safety through well-trained personnel.
He stated that Ogun state would not serve as a haven for criminal activities.

As part of the initiative, the governor pledged to provide additional patrol vehicles, electric motorcycles, communication gadgets, and other equipment to enable Amotekun operatives to perform their duties effectively.
“We will also continue to strengthen the Ogun state Security Network Agency (Amotekun corps) to ensure you have the tools and infrastructure required to perform your duties effectively and diligently,” Abiodun said.
“Today, based on your level of preparedness and commitment, I am approving the recruitment of 1,000 additional Amotekun corps members.

” This will bring the total strength to over 2,000. They will be appropriately enumerated in line with the civil service structure.
“I will also be approving additional logistics, including vehicles, electric motorcycles, and other necessary equipment to help you discharge your responsibilities effectively.”
The governor further advised the newly recruited officers to avoid using their position to intimidate or harass residents of the state.
