Benjamin Kalu, deputy speaker of the house of representatives, has donated food items, cash and scholarships to orphans in Cross River state.
The donations were made during the weekend at the Infant Jesus Orphanage in Calabar, the capital of Cross River.
Kalu’s visit to the orphanage was part of the 37th convocation ceremony and 50th anniversary celebration of the University of Calabar, his alma mater.
Chidera Maduka and Chimankpa Maduka, 12-year-old twins, were awarded scholarships to study law.

Kalu was at the orphanage with his former classmates from the University of Calabar and some national assembly members.
“We will take over the training of Chidera and her twin up to the university level. I am happy and proud they want to study law. We will support them. We will pay your school fees,” he said.
“We brought you some foodstuff and we will send you more. We will bring you toiletries. The people you are seeing here are your fathers and mothers. We are going to appoint a committee that will be taking care of you.
