Some residents of Ogun, Lagos and Abuja resumed normal activities on Monday — five weeks after President Muhammadu Buhari ordered a lockdown to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the areas.
When the president ordered the lockdown on March 30, there were 131 confirmed cases of COVID-19, but as of the time the measure was eased, the country had 2,588 cases.
Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation and chairman of the presidential task force on COVID-19, had said the relaxation of the lockdown was a difficult decision.
He, however, appealed to citizens to adhere strictly to the rules of the Nigeria Centre of Disease and Control (NCDC), especially on social distancing.
