Joseph Yobo, ex-Super Eagles skipper, visited President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa in Abuja on Friday.
The player joined a delegation of Ogoni elders led by G.N.K. Gininwa, the monarch of Gbenemene Tai, who paid a courtesy call on the president.
Yobo, an indigene of Rivers state, currently serves as the senior special assistant on sports to Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers.
His interest in politics can be traced to the buildup to the 2015 election, when he campaigned vigorously for former President Goodluck Jonathan. He followed the presidential campaign team of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to different states, particularly in the south-south.

But, of course, the elections are long over and Yobo looks in the mood to work with Buhari in Nigeria’s interest.
Moments after the visit, Yobo took to his Twitter to thank the president, saying he “probably” forgot that he is now a chief.
Thanks for receiving us Mr. President & the #NDCleanup. You probably forgot I’m now ‘Chief’ 😉 @AminaJMohammed https://t.co/rLYiAgWe2c
