Prior to the suspension order given by Mohammed Adamu, inspector-general of police, top members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were looking forward to a mega rally in Edo state.
The party had made plans to receive Osagie Ize-Iyamu, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2016, and some key opposition figures.
The Edo government had kicked against the rally while Philip Shaibu, deputy governor, visited the force headquarters in Abuja to seek a cancellation of the exercise which was scheduled to hold at Garrick Memorial School, Ekenwan Road, Benin.
Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman of the ruling party, had arrived the state from Abuja on Thursday, describing the decision of Ize-Iyamu to join his party as a good one.

However, the rally did not hold as only empty canopies and chairs were seen at the venue on Friday morning.
