PHOTOS: Flood takes over Abuja roads

Widespread flooding has taken over a number of major roads in Abuja, the nation’s capital, following a heavy downpour that lasted for several hours.

The rain, which started as early as 6:30am on Thursday, wreaked havoc across the city as many houses and roads were submerged in the water body.

Commercial activities were also grounded to a halt in some parts of the federal capital territory (FCT) as quite a number of government workers and traders were forced to stay back in their houses.

While some roads were impassable due to the gridlock, many residents were said to have been rendered homeless as a result of the magnitude of the flood in Lokogoma estates.

In some parts of Area 1, motorists were seen moving at snail speed as a result of the flooded roundabouts.
