The late Hosa Okunbo, chairman of Ocean Marine Solution Limited, has received a posthumous humanitarian award.
The late Okunbo was honoured alongside other distinguished Nigerians at the Humanitarian Service Diamond Awards (HSD) held in Abuja on Tuesday night.
The Edo-born businessman died in August 2021 after he was diagnosed with cancer.
He became prominent and gained admiration for his philanthropic activities that touched many people, especially people of his state.

His son, Osahon Hosa Okunbo, the chairman of Wells Carlton Hotels and Apartments in Abuja, also received the award for “emerging leader in philanthropy” .
Ikechukwu Norbert, convener and organiser of the HSD, said the event was held to celebrate and encourage those who have made commendable strides in the humanitarian field.
Speaking after receiving the award, Osahon said, “One of the principles I learnt from my father is investing in humanity”.

“As people have already pointed out, it is something that outlives you. Three years after his transition to glory, his impact is still being felt,” he added.
“As his children and beneficiaries, we will continue to uphold his legacy and invest in humanity as he did.”
On the state of the nation’s economy, Osahon urged Nigerians to support the government’s efforts to stabilise the country.
“As a Nigerian citizen, I always feel there is more to be done. The government is doing what they can, and the economy is what it is; we, as citizens, should continue to support them as much as we can,” he said.

He also commended the organisers of the award ceremony and promised continued support for their efforts.
