Passengers heading to Ibadan, Oyo state capital, from the Mobaji Johnson train station in Lagos were given free tickets on Saturday afternoon.

On Friday, Frank Okhiria, managing director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), announced that the federal government had declared free train rides from December 24 to January 5, 2022.

TheCable visited the Mobaji Johnson train station at Ebute Meta on Saturday around 1:05pm to monitor compliance.

At about 1:45pm, an official announced to commuters in the waiting room to move downstairs to the ticketing section for their tickets.

TheCable observed that the officials gave out the tickets for free without collecting money from commuters.

Some officials were also seen informing commuters that the tickets were free when it appeared they were not aware of the federal government’s directive.
