Workers’ unions at the Lagos State Broadcasting Corporation (LSBC) have initiated a three-day warning strike over the non-payment of the new minimum wage.
The strike began on Monday with a rally held at the Ikeja station, home to Lagos Television, Radio Lagos/Eko FM, and Lagos Traffic Radio.
During the rally, members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers’ Union (RATTAWU) carried placards with messages such as ‘Give us Oracle’ and ‘All we need is Oracle’.
The workers are demanding inclusion in the Oracle database, a system used by the Lagos state government for staffing in the civil service.

They argue that their integration into the database would enable them to receive the N85,000 minimum wage, which has been paid to other civil servants.
According to Adeleye Ajayi, chairman of the NUJ, Lagos chapter, workers have been excluded from the new minimum wage since its announcement in October 2024 by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of the state.
Ajayi said the unions have given multiple ultimatums to the state government to meet their demands, including fair treatment in terms of payment and benefits.

“Both NUJ and RATTAWU are quite aware of this. We have given different ultimatums. I think these are ultimatums for the state government to accede to the requests of our members,” he said.
“Our members should be integrated into the Oracle database. The Oracle database is like the IPPIS system in the federal civil service that creates a seamless way of paying workers’ salaries and other benefits.”
