Jabi Lake Park is one of the recreational centres in the federal capital territory (FCT). The lake stands out in all the recreational centres in the FCT because it offers guests an aquatic ambiance. The man-made lake offers a semblance of the experience on the beaches of Lagos. However, a recent visit to Jabi Lake shows that the park has become a shadow of itself and in dire need of proper maintenance. TheCable’s AYODEJI OWOLABI, in a photo documentary, examines the state of the park.
Beginning from the entrance of the park, it is clear that it is not properly managed and maintained by the parks and recreation department of the FCT administration.
The entrance and exit gates of the park are in bad condition, making the park easily accessible to all kinds of people. In fact, there is no presence of security.

Aside from the broken gates, the lighting fixtures of the park are also in bad condition with a large portion covered by weed.

The lake itself has become an eyesore. The water is littered with plastic wastes.
Safety protocol is absent at the park. Some of the boats used for cruising have no life jackets and there are no lifeguards.

The Jabi Lake Park could be a potential source of revenue for the federal capital territory administration (FCTA) if properly managed.
Effort to reach the FCTA to speak on the matter was abortive.
