PHOTOS: NELFUND MD visits Borno, says Tinubu committed to reforming education sector

Akintunde Sawyerr, the managing director of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), says President Bola Tinubu is committed to revitalising the nation’s education sector.

Sawyer spoke in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, on Friday during a visit to engage with students and other stakeholders in the education sector.

During a meeting with Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno, the NELFUND MD discussed collaboration on how to strengthen the agency’s mandate.

Sawyerr said the education loan initiative is also designed to reduce unproductivity and unhappiness among Nigerian students, which often lead to broader societal issues.

He noted that the loan is interest-free and does not require a fixed repayment period, which makes it flexible for students.

Lawan Wakilbe, Borno commissioner for education, science, technology, and innovation, said the state government is committed to ensuring that students in the state have access to the loan.

Wakilbe announced the establishment of a dedicated desk officer for NELFUND in the state.
