PHOTOS: Obi marks Eid with Muslims in Anambra, says Nigerians free to live anywhere

Peter Obi, Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, on Sunday, joined the Muslim community to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr at the Central Mosque in Onitsha, Anambra.

Obi, who posted pictures of the visit on Twitter, prayed for the Muslim Ummah and their families.

He said every Nigerian should be free to live freely in any part of the country.

“Today, at the Central Mosque, Onitsha, I joined the Muslim community in Anambra State to celebrate and share in the joys of Eid el Fitr. I am very grateful for the fraternal and convivial moments we shared, and especially for their kind words and prayers for a New Nigeria,” he wrote.

“In my felicitation remarks, I prayed for Allah to accept their sacrifices, supplications, almsgiving and other good deeds as acts of Ibadah and reward them abundantly, here and hereafter.

“I also prayed that their respective families will be blessed and witness many more Ramadans on Earth. It was gratifying that without prodding, my hosts recounted how as the governor of Anambra state, I had rebuilt their Mosque when it was burnt down, provided maximum security for them during the crisis that erupted in the state in 2006, and paid annually for several members of the community to attend the hajj pilgrimages.

“They stressed that what is most comforting for them is that I am the only politician who has maintained the routine of customarily visiting the Central Mosque, remained supportive of the community and maintained a close and cordial relationship with them.

“I have always maintained that every Nigeria should be free to live and thrive freely in any part of the nation. I presented my gift items to them and shared in their prayers for the OBIdient movement and for a new Nigeria.”
