PHOTOS: Obi visits Dele Farotimi after his release from prison

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023, has visited Dele Farotimi, at his Lagos residence.

In a post via X on Thursday, the former Anambra state governor said it was the first time he would be meeting Farotimi after his release from the correctional centre in Ekiti state.

Obi described Farotimi, who served as a spokesperson for his 2023 presidential campaign, as a symbol of courage.

“Yesterday, following my visit and meeting with President Obasanjo, I made time to visit my dear younger brother, Dele Farotimi,” Obi wrote.

“Since his return from the correctional center in Ekiti, I have not had the opportunity to meet with him.

“I was pleased to find him in good spirits and deeply encouraged by his unwavering dedication to the struggle for a better Nigeria.”

Farotimi was remanded by the Ekiti state magistrate court in Ado-Ekiti for 21 days over alleged defamation.

The police had accused him of “criminally defaming” Afe Babalola, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), in a book titled: ‘Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System’.

He regained freedom on December 24, after being granted bail of N30 million by the court.

The activist was arrested on December 3, 2024 at his office in Lagos and taken to Ekiti.

Amid his detention, Obi visited Babalola at his office in Ekiti state.
