Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu has been appointed as the new director general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The brigadier general addressed NYSC staff at the scheme’s national directorate headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.
Nafiu pledged to lead with transparency and prioritise corps member welfare.
He outlined plans to enhance job creation initiatives, improve camp feeding, hygiene, and kitting, to reposition the scheme for contemporary challenges.

“The welfare and well-being of corps members will always be a top priority,” he said, assuring staff and corps members of quality leadership,” he said.
Nafiu praised the NYSC’s role in fostering national unity and called for support from stakeholders to strengthen the scheme’s impact.
As the newly appointed DG, Nafiu succeeds Yushau Ahmed, his predecessor who served as head of the scheme for two years.

Ahmed had served as the 22nd NYSC director-general from January 2023 until this recent transition.
The NYSC, established in 1973, aims to promote national unity and integration among Nigerian youths.
