Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state on Sunday staged a protest over the alleged irregularities during the party’s governorship election.

On Saturday, the APC in Ondo conducted governorship primary poll to elect its flagbearer ahead of the November 16 election in Ondo.

Subsequently, Usman Ododo, governor of Kogi and the chairman of the committee overseeing the primary poll, announced that voting had been rescheduled to hold on Sunday in all 13 wards of Okitipupa LGA.

Some Ondo governorship aspirants have alleged that the election did not take place.

They also claimed that results were written by the Ododo-led panel.

Despite the criticism and controversies surrounding the primary election, Ododo insisted the process was transparent.

On Sunday, some supporters of the aggrieved aspirants carried placards to protest at the popular Oba Adesida-Oyemekun road in Akure, Ondo state capital.

Speaking during the protest, Adeniran Oyebade, director-general for Olusola Oke campaign organisation in Ondo central, described the primary as a “broad-day robbery”.

Oyebade alleged that the Ododo-led committee remained in Akure during the election, adding that it was writing results in favour of a particular candidate

He called for the suspension of the Kogi governor as a member of the party over the alleged irregularities that marred the primary election.

“We are protesting against our mandate that was stolen. It was a broad-day light robbery, and a monumental disaster,” Oyebade said.

“APC delegated some people to Ondo state to conduct the primary; apparently, that was never done.

“They remained in Akure and started writing results. They wrote the results of 203 wards all across Ondo state, taking the mandate of the people into their own hands.”
