PHOTOS: Osinbajo arrives in Kenya for Ruto’s inauguration as president

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has arrived in Nairobi, Kenya to represent Nigeria at the presidential inauguration of William Ruto.

The event, which takes place today at Kasarani Stadium, Nairobi, will be Kenya’s fifth presidential inauguration.

Osinbajo was received at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi, by Salim Mvurya, former governor of Kwale county; Yusuf Yumusa, Nigerian ambassador to Kenya, and other senior government officials.

On August 15, William Ruto was declared winner of Kenya’s presidential election after defeating ex-Prime Minister Raila Odinga in the keenly contested race.

Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced that Ruto emerged victorious after polling 50.49 percent of the votes to defeat Odinga, who polled 48.85 percent of the votes.

However, Odinga rejected the result, alleging electoral fraud, and asked the supreme court to nullify the election.

But on September 5, Kenya’s supreme court upheld Ruto’s electoral victory.

The court ruled that Ruto was validly elected president.

Osinbajo was accompanied on the trip by Zubairu Dada, minister of state for foreign affairs, and Babafemi Ojudu, special adviser to the president on political matters.
