Notable politicians, including Peter Obi, stepped on the red carpet where David Greene, the US ambassador to Nigeria, was waiting with a firm handshake and a broad smile.
The venue was the US consular residence in Lagos and the event was the commemoration of the 247th independence of the United States.
Obi, the second runner-up in the 2023 presidential election, was bedecked in his trademark black attire.
Also in attendance were Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun state, and Dele Momodu, the publisher of Ovation magazine and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
