PHOTOS: Police, army guard Nassarawa palace despite court order for Bayero’s eviction

Soldiers and police officers have cordoned off the street leading to the Nassarawa palace holding Aminu Bayero, the dethroned Emir of Kano.

TheCable also noticed that all adjoining streets have been cordoned off. The palace premises itself has been heavily fortified.

On Monday, a Kano state high court restrained Bayero from parading himself as Emir of Kano pending the determination of the suit.

The court also ordered the police to take over the Nassarawa palace where Bayero has been staying since he returned to Kano on Saturday.

Amina Aliyu, the presiding judge, made the ruling following an ex parte application filed by Ibrahim Isa Wangida, counsel to the applicants.

There has been palpable tension in Kano since Muhammadu Sanusi was reinstated as Emir of the town last Friday.

The Kano state house of assembly had amended a 2019 law which was used by Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano at the time, to depose Sanusi as Emir.

The 2019 legislation had balkanised the emirate into Bichi, Rano, Karaye, Kano and Gaya.

The repealed version sacked the Emirs of all the jurisdictions. While all the deposed Emirs have complied with the governor’s directive to vacate their palaces, Bayero has not.

Protests from Bayero’s supporters erupted across Kano on Sunday.
