PHOTOS: Sanwo-Olu receives Mojisola Meranda at Lagos House

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, has met with Mojisola Meranda, the new speaker of the state house of assembly.

Sanwo-Olu and Obafemi Hamzat, deputy governor, received the speaker and other principal officers of the assembly on Monday at the Lagos house in Ikeja.

The principal officers are Mojeed Fatai (Ibeju-Lekki I), deputy speaker; Temitope Adedeji (Ifako Ijaiye 1), the majority leader; Richard Kasunmu (Ikeja II), the deputy majority leader; David Setonji (Badagry II), chief whip; and Sanni Babatunde (Kosofe I), the deputy chief whip.

The state lawmakers visited Sanwo-Olu shortly before the commencement of the weekly state executive council meeting.

The governor led Meranda and the principal officers to the council chamber where they met with members of the state executive council.

In a statement by Gbenga Akosile, chief press secretary (CPS) to the governor, Sanwo-Olu congratulated Meranda for becoming the new speaker of the house.

The Lagos governor promised that there will be a “robust” relationship between the executive and legislature for the growth of the state.

Sanwo-Olu called for the support of the lawmakers for the speedy passage of bills and other programmes of his administration.

He urged the speaker to see her new role as an “avenue to strengthen the cordial relationship between the legislative and executive arms of government in the interest of the public”.

Meranda assumed office on January 13, succeeding Mudashiru Obasa, who was impeached over allegations of misconduct and abuse of power.

Before her election as speaker, Meranda served as the deputy speaker under Obasa.
