PHOTOS: Shoes, caps of children litter road, gutter after fatal Ibadan stampede

The police command in Oyo says 35 minors have been confirmed dead after a stampede at a funfair event organised for children in the Bashorun area of Ibadan, the state capital.

The police command said six people were critically injured in the incident that occurred at the Islamic High School.

The event was organised by Naomi Silekunola, an ex-wife of Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, whom the police said they have taken into custody for investigation, alongside seven other persons.

The organisers had targeted 5,000 attendees, but a larger number of residents thronged the scene, leading to a stampede.

When TheCable visited the scene on Thursday, children’s items, including shoes, caps and clothes littered the road and gutters.
