The Plateau state house of assembly has sacked its deputy speaker, Yusuf Gagdi.

A letter to this effect was signed by 18 members of the house and read at Tuesday’s plenary session by Henry Yunkwap, the majority leader.

According to Yunkwap, the 18 members have passed a vote of no confidence on Gagdi, hence the need for his impeachment.

Salleh Shehu, member representing Dengi constituency in the assembly, was voted in as the new deputy speaker of the house.

Shehu was nominated by Henry Dakogol, member representing Qua’pan North constituency.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Gagdi seconded the nomination of his successor.

NAN also reports that Gagdi defected from PDP to APC in 2016.

It would be recalled that Bamidele Oloyelogun from Ifedore state constituency was elected the new speaker of the Ondo state house of assembly under controversial circumstances.

He was elected on Monday by 13 of the 26 members of the house, the same group which controversially impeached the erstwhile speaker, Jumoke Akindele.

The other faction loyal to Akindele did not show up for the election which appeared to be impromptu.
