Plateau Killings: Lalong relaxes curfew in Jos North

Simon Lalong, Plateau state governor, has relaxed the curfew in Jos North LGA.

This decision was announced after a security council meeting, which was held at the government house on Tuesday.

The curfew was declared after the killing in Yelwa Zangam community in Jos North LGA in August.

TheCable had reported several persons were killed and houses set ablaze in the attack.

In a statement on Tuesday, Makut Macham, Lalong’s director of press and public affairs, said the curfew will only be in effect from 10pm to 6am.

He said the government has also lifted the total ban on tricycles.

But he added that curfew will remain in Jos South and Bassa LGA.

“This means that no tricycle will be allowed to operate between the hours of 6p.m. to 6a.m,” he said 

“However, the ban on motorcycles within the Jos/Bukuru Metropolis remains in force and will continue to ensure that violators are arrested and punished according to the law.

”The government is working on innovations, legislations and enforcement modules, for enhancing security, effectiveness and availability of public transportation in the State.

It will  soon be unveiled to ensure the safety of passengers.”

A curfew was declared in Jos North on August 15 after some travellers were killed.
