Plateau PDP chair: Dariye’s defection not only criminal but unconstitutional

Damishi Sango, chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau state, says the recent defection of Joshua Dariye to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is criminal.

Sango said this at a news conference in Jos on Friday.

In a letter which Senate President Bukola Saraki read at plenary, Dariye announced his defection to the APC.

But Sango said the movement of Dariye from PDP to APC was unconstitutional.

“It is criminal to carry the mandate of a party to another party,” he said.

“So, Dariye’s defection from PDP to APC is not only criminal, but unconstitutional.

“Dariye rode on PDP’s back to become a senator, but he worked for the APC during the last general election.

“All this while, we knew he is PDP in the day time, but APC at night; so, we were not surprised when he defected.”

Sango said the PDP would take legal actions if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not declare Dariye’s seat vacant.
