Plateau speaker, majority leader lose seats to PDP candidates

Yakubu Yakson Sanda, speaker of the Plateau state house of assembly, has lost his reelection bid for the Pengana state constituency.

Happiness Akawu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 9,926 votes, to defeat Sanda of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who got 7,936 votes.

Faisal Maitala of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) came third with 6,721 votes.

The election of Akawu as the member-elect of the Pengana state constituency makes her the first female elected candidate in the history of the constituency.

Meanwhile, Naanlong Gapyil Daniel, the majority leader of the state house of assembly, also lost his re-election bid to Moses Sule of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Announcing the result of the Mikang state constituency election, Umaru Takum, the returning officer, said Sule polled 12,880 votes to defeat incumbent Daniel of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who got 9848 votes.
