Plateau United crash out of CAF Champions League

Plateau United, Nigeria’s representative at the CAF Champions League, have been eliminated from the tournament by Tanzania’s Simba FC.

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions drew 0-0 at the Benjamin Mkapa national stadium in Dar-es-Salam against the Tanzanian side in the second leg fixture.

The first leg saw the Abdu Maikaba side with a 1-0 deficit on home soil last weekend in Jos.

Clatus Chama’s goal was enough to put the Tanzania outfit into the next round.

Like their Plateau United counterpart, Kano Pillars, who represented Nigeria in CAF Confederation Cup, also failed to go past ASC Jaraaf at the Ahmadu Bello stadium in Kaduna.

The Lionel Emmanuel Soccoia led boys failed to overturn the 3-1 deficit handed to them at the Stade Demba Diop, Dakar last weekend.

Enyimba FC will be hoping to build on the 1-0 advantage over Rahimo, the Burkinabe Premier League champions, in their first leg fixture at the Stade du 4 Aout, Ouagadougou last weekend.

Rivers United, the second NPFL side representing the nation in the CAF Confederation Cup, will also pray to overturn the 2-1 goal deficit handed to them in the first leg by Futuro Kings of Equatorial Guinea at the Estadio de Mongomo stadium.

The Stanley Eguma boys will be hoping to get a positive result at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium, Port Harcourt in the return leg on Sunday.
