Police: 15-year-old girl electrocuted while fetching water in Ogun

The Ogun police command says a 15-year-old girl has died of electrocution in Abeokuta, the state’s capital.

Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, said the victim, Miracle Ogbona, was electrocuted on Sunday while fetching water at the Olomore Housing Estate area of Abeokuta.

Odutola said one Onyekachi Silas from Olomore Housing Estate reported the incident to the divisional police officer (DPO) of Lafenwa.

“Silas narrated to the DPO that his younger brother called him on the phone on Sunday at about 11:50 p.m., that Miracle Ogbonna, 15, who is also the younger sister to his brother’s wife was electrocuted.

“He further stated that there was a power outage in the house and Ogbonna went to the well to fetch water.

“In the process of fetching water, power was restored and Ogbonna was tragically electrocuted by a naked cable wire of the pumping machine placed inside the well.

“She was rushed to a private hospital where the doctor on duty confirmed her dead.”

The police spokesperson said an investigation into the case has commenced, adding that the corpse has been deposited at the Oke Lantoro morgue.
