Police: 1,802 suspects arrested during raids on black spots in Lagos

The police command in Lagos says 1,802 suspects have been arrested during raids at different black spots within the last two weeks in the state.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, said operatives arrested 1,019 suspects in Oshodi, Mushin, Agege, Lagos Island, Ojota and Orile-Iganmu areas between April 8 and 14.

The police spokesperson added that another 783 suspects were arrested between April 15 and 20.

He said the operations were carried out by area commands, divisions and tactical teams, including the rapid response squad.

Hundeyin affirmed that the exercise has “successfully” checked numerous public attacks, especially at night and early morning.

He emphasised that proper screening is always conducted after raids to ensure that innocent residents are not arrested as suspects.

The command’s spokesperson urged members of the public to always be in possession of their means of identification and avoid hanging out with suspected criminals.
