Police: 35 suspects arrested within one month in Kano

The police command in Kano says it arrested 35 suspects for “major crimes” within one month in the state.

Abdullahi Kiyawa, the command’s spokesperson, said the crimes include armed robbery, kidnapping, theft, drug trafficking, and fraud.

Briefing journalists at the command’s headquarters in the Bompai area of Kano, Kiyawa displayed items recovered from the suspects.

The items recovered include stolen vehicles, solar batteries, mobile phones, and counterfeit currency.

“Among the notable cases is the arrest of five suspected armed robbers on 12 August, linked to a robbery at Hotoro Quarters in Kano,” NAN quoted the police spokesperson as saying.

“A motor vehicle and a locally made gun were recovered from them.”

Kiyawa added that two suspected kidnappers were also apprehended on July 11, with two abducted persons rescued in a deep forest in Gubuchi village, Makarfi LGA of Kaduna Ssate.

He noted that five suspected thieves were arrested on August 27 in Warawa LGA, with five solar batteries recovered from them.

“Two armed robbers were arrested on 26 August, and a sharp knife and a stolen mobile phone were seized in Dorayi Quarters, Kano,” Kiyawa added.

“Other incidents include the arrest of suspected fraudsters, motorcycle thieves, and armed robbers, as well as the recovery of stolen vehicles and counterfeit currency.”

He said three suspected drug dealers were apprehended on 26 August, adding that 98 Exol tablets and a block of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp were recovered in Yan-tagwage quarters.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
